Episode 4: Ayurveda with Skaya Hedstrom

I met Skaya Hedstrom through yoga—she was my teacher. Not long after, I noticed she was running an introduction to Ayurveda workshop. I’d heard of Ayurveda before, but only in a vague way. I knew it had something to do with balance, doshas, and ancient Indian medicine, but that was about it. Out of curiosity, I signed up.

That first workshop left an impression on me. Skaya had a way of making something that seemed quite complex feel approachable and relevant. Since then, I’ve slowly become more interested in Ayurveda and how some of its principles can be applied in day-to-day life—especially around routine, digestion, and self-awareness.

This episode is a conversation with Skaya about what Ayurveda is, how it works, and how it can fit into modern Western life. We talk about the role of the doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha), the importance of digestion, and how mindful eating and daily rituals can support our wellbeing.

Ayurveda encourages us to slow down, create consistency in our routines, and take a more intuitive approach to health. It’s not about being perfect—it’s about tuning in and responding to what your body actually needs.

Some of the ideas we talk about:

  • What Ayurveda is and where it comes from

  • How understanding your contellation of doshas can help guide your wellness choices

  • Why digestion is central to health in Ayurvedic thinking

  • Small, practical ways to introduce Ayurvedic practices into your life

  • The value of rhythm, ritual, and simplicity

  • A gentle reminder to be kind to ourselves

Whether you’re brand new to Ayurveda or reconnecting with it after some time away, I hope this episode gives you something to take with you—an idea, a nudge, or maybe even a cup of CCFT tea.

Skaya is based in the southwest of Western Australia, but she also works online. If Ayurveda is something you’ve been curious about, or if you're just looking for a more balanced way to approach your health, I hope this episode offers a good starting point.
